Kindle Program Offers Discounted eBooks for Customers Who Have Bought Print Editions

Amazon has introduced a new program called Kindle MatchBook that gives Kindle customers the option to buy discounted eBook editions of books that they have already purchased in print. Amazon customers who purchase or have purchased select print books will be able to buy the Kindle edition for cheap. Most cost somewhere between free and $2.99.

The feature works for books purchased all the way back to 1995, the year Amazon opened for business. Publishers must enroll these titles in the program. The program launches next month. It will include the bestsellers:  I Know This Much Is True by Wally LambThe Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth SteinThe Thorn Birds by Colleen McCulloughA Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving and The Hangman’s Daughter by Oliver Pötzsch, among others.  Read more

Oliver Pötzsch Has Sold 1 Million Books on Amazon

Oliver Pötzsch, the author of The Hangman’s Daughter series, has sold 1 million books through Amazon Publishing.

This includes the combined worldwide sales of print, audio and eBook editions of his three books: The Hangman’s Daughter, The Dark Monk, and The Beggar King. The news comes as the author is readying to release his fourth book in the series, The Poisoned Pilgrim, which comes out on July 16th.

Originally published by Ullstein in Pötzsch’s native German, the Hangman’s Daughter series is acquired, translated into English, and published in digital editions by AmazonCrossing, Amazon Publishing’s imprint focused on acquiring exceptional works of world literature for translation. “The Hangman’s Daughter,” Pötzsch’s debut novel, became a #1 bestselling Kindle book. Trade paperback editions of the books are published by Mariner Books, a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, in a licensing agreement with Amazon Publishing.

Top Kindle Books Cost $5 Or Less

Kindle owners like cheap eBooks. According to Amazon’s Top 100 Paid list, 7 of the Top 10 titles cost $5 or less.

The No. 1 title, Alone by Lisa Gardner is $.99, the No. 3 title is $.99 Switched (Trylle Trilogy, Book 1) by Amanda Hocking, and the No. 4 title is The Hangman’s Daughter by Oliver Pötzsch which costs $3.99, The No. 10 title is a $.99 Kindle game from Oak Systems Leisure Software called Word Search.

The most expensive books on the list include Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and… the No. 2 title, which costs $9.99; The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, Stieg Larsson $9,99 eBook, which is ranked at No. 5; and James Patterson’s Tick Tock, which costs $12.99 and is ranked at No. 8.

Three titles cost $5. This includes Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at No. 6 and The Girl Who Played with Fire at No. 7, as well as Water for Elephants: A Novel by
Sara Gruen at No. 9.
