BookLending.com Now Has a Most Popular eBook List

Every month, the digital library vendor Overdrive releases a most requested eBook list. The list is drawn from all the eBooks requested by all its library partners.

One eBook lending site, BookLending.com, has decided to follow Overdrive and release its own weekly list of most popular eBooks. While the sample group isn’t as large as Overdrive, it still provides an interesting contrast.

I’ve already noticed one way to use this list, and that’s just in the first few minutes. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins topped the list.  None of those titles show up as eBooks on the Overdrive list, but they are listed as the most popular audiobooks. This suggests that libraries should buy that series as eBooks. Clearly there’s an audience for these titles.

Until this new list was released there wasn’t much that could be done to analyze the Overdrive list. Now that there are 2 data points, it should be possible to analyze the data and draw conclusions. And just think what we could do if more eBook lending sites released their own lists.
