Barnes & Noble is highlighting Rebecca Skloot’s The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks this week as its eBook Showcase. Skloot’s book has been one of the most talked about of the year, chronicling the unlikely history of cells taken from a woman named Henrietta Lacks without her knowledge. After her death, the cells lived on, cultured and reproduced to this day for use in many of the major medical breakthroughs of the last half century.

Barnes & Noble named the book one of its “Discover Great New Writers” selections. In addition to this B&N blog post, this week’s eBook Showcase enables Nook owners to download a free essay by Skloot if they bring their Nook into a B&N store, through the company’s “More in Store” program.
