Follett And Patterson eBook Prices Inch Past Hardcover

Would you pay more for an eBook than a hardcover? Ken Follett’s new novel Fall of Giants from Dutton, an imprint of Penguin Group USA, is currently cheaper as a hardcover than as an eBook. On Amazon, the hardcover is on sale for $19.39 (down from the $36 list price) and the Kindle book is $19.99.

Don’t Blink by James Patterson and Howard Roughan is currently on sale on Amazon for $14 as a hardcover (down from the $27.99 list price) and $14.99 for the Kindle edition.

This pricing disparity hasn’t hurt eBook sales of Follett’s novel. The New York Times reports: “Marilyn Ducksworth, a spokeswoman for Penguin, said only that sales had been strong since the Sept. 28 publication date. ‘It’s a long and wonderful book, of which we have sold over 20,000 e-books in the last seven days,’ Ms. Ducksworth said.”

Both books are more expensive in hardcover format through Barnes & Noble. Borders has the same competitive prices as Amazon for hardcover but does not have the eBook formats for sale.
