Simon & Schuster eBook Delays: An Update

In an SnS.gifemail exchange with eBookNewser, Simon & Schuster vice president of corporate communications Adam Rothberg explained the extent to which CEO Carolyn Reidy’s statement yesterday–that eBooks should be released between hardcovers and paperbacks–is a matter of corporate policy. Not yes, he said, but maybe soon: “It is certainly a possibility that we will move to this as policy. We will know more after we have had a chance to study data and evaluate the effect of the sequencing,” said Rothberg.

So nothing definite yet, except for delays on 35 early 2010 titles, of which Simon & Schuster has just released a list, which you can download in its entirety below. It includes titles by Don Delillo, Jodi Picoult, and Carol Higgins Clark.

A short statement accompanies the release, which is credited to Rothberg: “We believe this publishing sequence will benefit the performance of all the different formats in which these titles are published, and in the long term will contribute to a healthier retail environment for the greater book buying public.”
