"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

Aaron Blake: The FishbowlDC Interview

ablakepic.bmpSay hello to The Hill's Aaron Blake.

How many suits do you own? Three and a half. I don't know how you lose half a suit, but I did it somehow awhile back. It was the left half.

What word do you routinely misspell? Republican. I slip the b in before the u, so it's Repbulican.

Did you see Brokeback Mountain? Not yet, but I intend to. I haven't been good about checking out the new releases on Netflix.

Did you see The Da Vinci Code? See above.

What's the name of your cell phone ring? I have always despised that person whose cell phone goes off in a quiet room, so I keep mine on vibrate.

What time did you get up this morning? 6 a.m. I'm from the Midwest, and apparently this makes me certifiably crazy on the East Coast.

When did you last cry and why? I cry every time I walk outside in the cold wind. For some reason, it make my eyes water like crazy here. Crying for real? When my family's dog died about a year ago. I was a mess.

Which of the seven deadly sins are you? I like to keep my sins non-deadly, but if I had to choose one it'd be pride/hubris.

Beach, city or country? City, with occasional and necessary trips to the others.

Would you say you're cute? Pretty? Hot? Beautiful? Where I come from, all the men are handsome, all the women are strong and all the children are above average.

Read the rest when you click below...(and see previous FishbowlDC interviews: Julie Mason, David Shuster, Joe Curl, Alex Pareene, Peter Beinart, Jonah Goldberg, Megyn Kendall, Ana Marie Cox, Jim Brady, Howard Mortman, Amy Argetsinger, Jose Antonio Vargas, Chuck Todd, Tom Gottlieb, Kelly Ann Collins, David von Drehle, David Lat, Mark Leibovich, Zain Verjee, David Plotz, Paul Kane, Karen Travers, Mark Halperin, Hugo Gurdon, Greg Kelly,Ken Rudin, John Dickerson, Anne Schroeder, Spencer Ackerman, Bret Baier, Bob Sellers, Greta van Susteren, Danielle Jones, Jonathan Salant, John McCalla, Pam Hess, Ryan Grim, Marc Ambinder, Marty Kady, Jack Shafer, Annie Lou Bayly, Jerry Zremski, Charlie Cook, Dave Hughes, Howard Fineman, Katie Tarbox, Mark Segraves, Chris Cillizza, Tom Sietsema, Bill Triplett, Robin Givhan, David Brody, Norah O'Donnell, Carl Cannon, Jordan Lieberman, David Folkenflik, Molly Henneberg, Ernesto Londono, Brody Mullins)

What color is your bathroom? White.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? 200, and I appreciate and cherish every one of them.

What's your opinion of New York City? It's embarrassing, but I've never been. I was going to go over President's Day weekend, but it fell through. I'll go soon and report back. Promise.

What's your favorite letter? HH, which I didn't know was a letter until Mitch Hedberg told me.

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? David La Vaque, who edited the sports section at the University of Minnesota's Minnesota Daily. He hired me as a 17-year-old with neither experience nor a clue about anything, and he didn't even require a face-to-face interview. Few people besides my parents have shown such faith in me and then helped me to achieve.

Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? Yes, The Onion's podcasts are fantastic. A recent one: "Man Surprised To Hear Himself Tell Matt Damon He's A 'Big Fan'"

Who's your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? I actually started watching it this season, but I'm too embarrassed about that fact to claim a favorite at this point.

When's the last time you volunteered? Where? I'm a bad, bad person.

Who is your favorite active journalist? A tie between John Oliver and Geraldo Rivera.

What did you have for breakfast? A cinnamon raisin English muffin with crunchy peanut butter and apple jelly, Granola cereal, milk and green tea. Same thing every day.

What's your favorite item of clothing? Mesh shorts. I wear them whenever I'm at home.

What one toiletry item could you not live without? Toothpaste.

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? Super speed. I'm a runner, and it'd be nice to win something one day.

Better role model: GIJoe? Barbie? The Mr. Stokes doll from Extras.
