"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

Some Politicos Are Slobs

An internal Politico email, obtained by FishbowlDC:

    -------- Original Message --------
    Subject: Important...
    Date: Fri, 9 May 2008 13:34:12 -0400
    From: Jim VandeHei
    To: Staff

Dress Code Alert (and I am not kidding)

There is no doubt we like to push the envelope here at Politico, writing with more voice and injecting some edge into our stories. What we no longer want to do is push the envelope on dress code. That's right, guys:

no more unbuttoned shirts to sport your beastly chests, no more flipflops to sport your gangly toenails and no more wrinkled shirts yanked from beneath your bed.

I thought it was only me bothered by it but when I announced this to a huge sampling of Politicos they erupted in wild applause (I believe Lisa Lerer even hooted standing atop her chair).

I am not asking you to wear a monogrammed shirt and tie every day. But we are professionals, so let's all use some common sense and dress like it. Socks would be nice, too.

    VandeHei

SNEAK PEAK: Roll Call's New Website

RConline9.png

FishbowlDC has gotten a screen grab of Roll Call's new website, which will be unveiled sometime this summer. The Capitol Hill newspaper worked with Dittus Communications in its development. (And, yes, the bulk of content will remain behind a subscription wall.)

CQ Launches "VP Madness"

From the release:

Congressional Quarterly Inc., the nation's premier provider of news and analysis on Congress, politics and public policy, today announced the launch of CQ Politics' VP Madness (GOP Edition) on www.cqpolitics.com.

VP Madness, an interactive game modeled after the NCAA college basketball tournament, enables political enthusiasts of every stripe to select John McCain's running mate from a competitive field of potential GOP vice presidential candidates. ...

CQ Politics reporters and editors have narrowed the field to 32 potential running mates, handicapped the races, pitted the candidates in head-to-head matchups and provided the scoop on who might have the inside track. The contest includes a wide variety of people assembled in this virtual smoke-filled room: front-runners and long shots, household names and Cinderellas.

CQ Politics users will vote on first-round match-ups starting Thursday, May 1st and then return to make subsequent picks based on the results of each round, culminating in a final VP pick on Thursday, May 22nd. VP Madness can be found at www.cqpolitics.com/vpmadness. Make your first-round picks today.
