Jim Mills: The FishbowlDC Interview

Jim Mills.jpgSay hello to The Hill's Jim Mills (formerly senior Capitol Hill producer for Fox News).

What word do you routinely misspell? Subpeonna, Rennassance, and Vicqueria (as in NBC reporter Mike Vicqera)

What's the name of your cell phone ring? Alternates between the "smoking gun" audio from the Nixon tapes and Play That Funky Music White Boy by Wild Cherry.

What time did you get up this morning? 5:45 a.m.

When did you last cry and why? I typically tear up pretty good at any ballpark when the national anthem is sung. Could be the beer, too. Other than that -- the end of the movie "Miracle" about the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team and that ending in "Scent of a Woman" when Al Pacino sticks up for the kid at that snooty school. I am a real sucker for sports and justice-in-the-end movies.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? Roughly? I receive exactly 777 emails every day. The darndest thing too. It never varies. Even on weekends. Doesn't everyone? Should I talk to my computer guy or a priest about this?

What's your favorite letter? I am a big fan of the pschwa sound but I can't spell that word either. Other than that, the 1,769th letter in the Chinese alphabet is really cool too. If you write it down then turn it 45 degrees counter clockwise it looks like a combo silhouette of Jimmy Carter and some singer named Fifty Cent Piece.

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? C-SPAN's Brian Lamb, but he is no longer single.

Also, drop us a line to let us know who else you'd like FishbowlDC to interview. They must work in the Washington area and you must include their email address.

When's the last time you volunteered? Where? I pick up a lot of litter and I am a faithful recycler. Does that count? Also, I don't bill anyone for the volunteer work I do working on my 401 (k) accounts.

Who is your favorite active journalist? Bob Costas. Keith Olbermann. Mike Viqeria. And the most underrated TV journalist in America -- James Rosen of Fox News. Great on-air. Great writer. Knows history. Storyteller. Cartoonist. Impersonator. He does it all. A real rennasance man. Should have his own Tom Snydery late night show. I would produce it for free.

What did you have for breakfast? After much thought, I am rethinking that comment about producing the Rosen show for free. Huh, what? Oh, Duncan Doughnuts coffee and one doughnut, although for some reason I never seem to qualify for the special combo rate. Really bothers me.

What one toiletry item could you not live without? Mennen Speed Stick. And for any fellow Speed Stick users, send your empty plastic containers to James Rosen at Fox. He is building a children's hospital with them. I tell you, the dude is amazing.

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? Trick patriotism question right? USA baby! The only superpower left on earth. Oh. Ok, maybe I misread that. To forgive people, including myself, more quickly.

Red or white wine? Red.

PG-13 or R? I am a Dad so it depends on how many other kids are going and what time you will be home.

Lincoln, Jefferson or Washington Memorial? Lincoln. Although it really bothers me when Teddy Roosevelt comes in dead last every time during those races at the new ballpark. I am thinking that thing might be fixed. Just had to get that off my chest.

Leg or breast (chicken, of course) My testing experts tell me I will get a better score if I come back to this one later when I can give it the proper amount of time it deserves.

Friday night or Saturday night? Absolutely. Will have that leg or breast answer to you by Friday night at the latest.

"Wedding Crashers" or "Old School" Ugh. Sorry. Clueless. Movies right? But I don't want to waste this primo space, so let me just blast the Chinese for rolling those tanks over their own kids 19 years ago in Tiananmen Square. Unforgiveable.

The Palm or Cafe Milano? I refuse to eat at any restaurant that doesnt have my picture or caricature on the wall. Restroom walls don't count.

Yankees or Red Sox? Sorry. National League. Dodgers man. Huge Sandy Koufax fan. Met him this summer in Vero Beach. Wanna see the pictures?

Jenna or Barbara? Sorry, am a Dad. Can't go there.

McSteamy or McDreamy? TV show right? Since I am currently trying to pitch a DC-based comedy to Hollywood, whichever creative genius came up with these compelling, McMarvelous characters and is also able to take a meeting with me, babe.

Leno or Letterman? Huge respect for both, but too late for me these days. Letterman, I guess, because I have a soft spot for guys with bad hair.

Stewart or Colbert? Huge respect for both....Oh Hell...Stewart. Colbert didn't have his whole heart in that presidential run.

Boxers or briefs? Feeling really bad right now about that snarky answer to the volunteerism question.
