"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

Linda Kramer: The FishbowlDC Interview

Linda-1.jpg Say hello to Linda Kramer, the Washington editor of Glamour magazine.

What word do you routinely misspell? It's not misspelling, it's hitting the keys too fast and dropping the "l" from public

What's the name of your cell phone ring?"Normal"

What time did you get up this morning? When the dog jumped on bed at 6:30 am

When did you last cry and why? Probably when I broke a nail. I like to cry over trivial frustrations and save my cool for when it's needed.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? Around 50

What's your favorite letter? L of course, for Love and it's my initial

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? Wes Gallagher, the late president of the Associated Press, gave me my first big break when I got a summer college job working for the AP in NY.

Glossy Mag Wars Continue

First Washingtonian stepped up its magazine racks at area Whole Foods. Then Washington Life followed suit. Now, DC magazine is also making a push...but their mags are free:

Russert Makes Time 100 List

Time magazine is out with its annual "Time 100" list of "the world's most influential people: leaders, thinkers, heroes, artists, scientists and more." Mario Cuomo pays tribute to Russert:

Most candidates are not eager to present themselves for Tim's incisive scrutiny, which is fed by his prodigious study and preparation. But they have little choice: appearing on Meet the Press is today as vital to a serious candidate as being properly registered to vote.

Lorrie Lynch: Why Am I The Worse Person In The World?!?

USA Weekend's Lorrie Lynch takes to the blog to discuss her being named "Worse Person in the World" by Keith Olbermann.

Imagine my surprise when I arrived home from a three-hour church meeting last night to have my husband inform me that I had been called 'Worse Person in the World' on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann. ... Keith was upset that I told readers how Burnett would not talk to us without her PR handler being in on the interview. In his rant (which you can view here) Keith chastizes me for not understanding that no public figure from "the president to Ashton Kutcher" is interviewed without his press handler sitting in.

Sorry Keith, I beg to differ. I'm proud to say we expect public figures to be able to answer questions without their PR people in the room or on the phone. It makes for much better interviews. And my column is full of such conversations every week. In fact, in November of 2005, Keith himself was featured in the column (scroll down a bit for the item), having given a lovely interview that was completely handler-free.

Oh snap.
