When did you last cry and why? I sobbed uncontrollably in front of a Westfield Leader reporter June 6th, 2000 when we lost a tough congressional primary race I was managing.

Beach, city or country? Country, because you can't plant peonies in sand or concrete.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? Around 200- 300. The customer service email for Campaigns & Elections magazine links directly to my Blackberry. Emails roll in all night from our readers in Australia.

What's your opinion of New York City? Been there, done that. I lived in New York from 1998 to 2002. Doing politics in New York is like doing finance in DC, it generated lots of blank stares.

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? My wife, because she has an unmatched bullshit detector. Wally Edge, because he made politics fun after June 6, 2000. (see "When did you last cry and why?")

Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? Not yet, but I fear it's only a matter of time.

Who's your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? Chris Daughtry, he was robbed.

When's the last time you volunteered? Where? Last week, I donated to a charity for disabled kids. Half my staff runs marathons for charity, or at least they pretend to.

Who is your favorite active journalist? There are too many to list. On the other side, I refuse to read anyone who headlines their article "Candidates Trade Barbs."

What did you have for breakfast? Tea, lots of it.

What's your favorite item of clothing? I have a sweater that makes me look like Mr. Rogers. I'll never get rid of it despite how many times you laugh at me.

What one toiletry item could you not live without? Toothbrush... my parents, sister, uncle and cousins are all dentists. I fear cavities.

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? I'd like to shoot heat rays from my eyes, like Superman. I try sometimes, but it never works.
