Christina Bellantoni: The FishbowlDC Interview

bellantmug.jpgSay hello to the Washington Times' Christina Bellantoni.

How many suits do you own? Not enough.

What word do you routinely misspell? It used to be Schwarzenegger, but fortunately I learned how to spell it when I covered California's 2003 recall election.

Did you see Brokeback Mountain? Yes.

Did you see The Da Vinci Code? Yes. The flick was okay, but I preferred the book-on-CD, which kept my husband and I entertained on a cross-country drive.

What's the name of your cell phone ring? Three devices, three rings. Personal cell – vibrate. Work cell – some jazzy tune I will soon retire because I just got a new Blackberry. That ring is called UK Ring 2.

What time did you get up this morning? Coffee started to brew at 6:00, TV set to CNN chimed at 6:10. I think I finally got up at 6:20.

When did you last cry and why? Reporters and Chuck Norris never cry.

Which of the seven deadly sins are you? Is it a sin to be a control freak?

Beach, city or country? The beach, but I prefer beaches like what I grew up near in the Bay Area – the kind where the water is too freaking cold to swim.

Would you say you're cute? Pretty? Hot? Beautiful? I've always believed that if I'm ever in People magazine I'd rather be intriguing than beautiful. That said, has anyone ever answered this question?

What color is your bathroom? Basement white.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? 250 between my personal, work and an old account used for Google alerts and the like. I try to read as many of them as I can; about 40 percent are GOP Leader Alerts from House Republicans. And that's just to criticize Speaker Pelosi's plane.

What's your opinion of New York City? If it were the political center of the world, I’d live there. Since it's not, I visit as often as I can.

What's your favorite letter? Love letter.

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? Probably Judge Bill Danser – Working at a small-town daily in Los Gatos, I uncovered that Danser, a local judge, had tried to fix two parking tickets for his son using judicial stationary. I broke the story, which prompted his boss to investigate him. The story snowballed and he was later thrown off the bench for doing judicial favors for his friends on the San Jose Sharks.

Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? Mark Warner's ... for work purposes.

Who's your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? It annoys me more people know about American Idol contestants than the presidential hopefuls. But I admit I watch Survivor.

When's the last time you volunteered? Where? Does babysitting count? I do donate to charitable causes, but have been lax in my volunteer time since moving to Washington. I hope to someday do the breast cancer walk with my mom.

Who is your favorite active journalist? Jon Stewart.

What did you have for breakfast? Cheerios with blueberries, raisins and soy milk, coffee with soy creamer

What's your favorite item of clothing? My black Converse All-stars, bought in New Orleans when I was doing a story post-Katrina.

What one toiletry item could you not live without? Cherry Chapstick.

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? Freeze time. First I'd get some extra sleep, then I'd read all the books I never feel like I have time to finish.

Better role model: GIJoe? Barbie? Neither. I like Herself the Elf, an obscure cartoon from the 80s. She was an environmentalist and could kick some evil ass.
