"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones Monday, Dec 11
Jerry Zremski: The FishbowlDC Interview
How many suits do you own? Six, not including the one I was born in. What word do you routinely misspell? Appellate. Or apellate. I forget which. Did you see Brokeback Mountain? Yes. Ang Lee is a genius. Did you see The Da Vinci Code? Nope. Everybody says it's boring. I'll wait for the decoder ring. What's the name of your cell phone ring? Ska Big Band. What time did you get up this morning? 6:20 a.m. When did you last cry and why? When I tried opening the plastic bubble-wrap packaging on my new Palm Pilot. Which of the seven deadly sins are you? Internet addiction. Beach, city or country? City during the week, Rehoboth Beach on the weekend. Would you say you're cute? Pretty? Hot? Beautiful? Yes.
What color is your bathroom? Pale green. It matches the shower curtain -- which is, incidentally, the same one the Paul Giamatti character had in his bathroom in "Sideways." How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? At least 150, including many enticing investment offers...Should I pass them along to your readers? What's your opinion of New York City? I love New York City. I love everything about it -- the buildings, the culture, the vibe. I even used to love the Yankees until my conscience got to me. What's your favorite letter? Z, predictably enough. What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? Bill Flynn, currently the city editor at the Buffalo News. I was a raw journalism school grad with good instincts when I went to work with Bill, who was financial editor in the mid-1980s. I feel like I learned how to be a reporter under Bill. He's a great journalist and a wonderful man. Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? Podcast? What's a podcast? Can I get them on my Discman? Who's your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? I have never watched American Idol, nor been invited to perform. When's the last time you volunteered? Where? January 2005, at a local soup kitchen. Alas, the Press Club has kept me too busy since then. And that's volunteer work, really. Who is your favorite active journalist? Seymour Hersh. What a career. All these years and he's still breaking big stories. What did you have for breakfast? A bagel, fresh fruit and coffee at the Press Club. The Club has a complimentary breakfast for members that's really great. In fact, if you join the Club and have breakfast here every day instead of, say, Starbucks, your membership pays for itself. Hint, hint, hint, hint, hint... What's your favorite item of clothing? A white t-shirt with red pinstripes that I bought when I was living in the Boston area in 2000. God knows why I love it so. What one toiletry item could you not live without? My reporters notebook. If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? The ability to open plastic bubble-wrap packaging. Better role model: GIJoe? Barbie? SpongeBob Squarepants. Email This Post |
