Could You Be Thin-Fat?

That's a question that has been asked around the Health section over the past week, since Mayo Clinic cardiologist Francisco Lopez-Jimenez presented some provocative new research on "normal weight obesity" at the American College of Cardiology's recent meeting in Chicago. Lopez-Jiminez says you may look thin and not be "overweight" according to your Body Mass index (BMI), but you still may have an obese person's problems.

His team analyzed data collected by the federal government about more than 2,000 adults who were considered lean based on their BMIs. It turns out that more than half of them had too much body fat. For men, that means at least 20 percent of their body weight was fat. For women, it's at least a third.

So what are we doing in the Health section? Using a simple body fat monitor to see what percentage of our weight comes from fat. And some apparently slim members of staff realize it's time to build some muscle!
