When did you last cry and why? Election night in 2000, when they took Florida from Al Gore's column.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? Something like 500, unless I get an on-air mention from Don Geronimo (half of WJFK-FM's "Don And Mike Show). Then way more.

What's your opinion of New York City? Technically, I'm a native New Yorker. I was born there, but I've have never lived there. I love it - in small doses. Way too fast.

What's your favorite letter? S followed by M.

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? Carl Hilinski, the editor I had in my first local newspaper job (The Reston Times) fresh out of college. A really nice guy.

Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? I download lots of tunes from iTunes, but never a podcast.

Who's your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? Chris Daughtry. I wish I was in my 20s again and looked like him.

When's the last time you volunteered? Where? It's been a while. I do try to practice "random acts of kindless" on a daily basis, though.

Who is your favorite active journalist? I am a lefty, but I really like moderate righty Ron Smith, the afternoon host on WBAL talk radio in Baltimore.

What did you have for breakfast? Tea.

What's your favorite item of clothing? Camo pants. I must own a dozen. I know, strange.

What one toiletry item could you not live without? Liquid soap.

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? To eliminate anxiety in all forms.
