Who is your favorite active journalist? McPhee in the long-form category - he has a tremendous range of interests, and pulls all of his pieces off with perfect pitch. And Frank Phillips among the daily folks - he's the Boston Globe's long-time State House bureau chief, and is everything a reporter should be.

What's your favorite item of clothing? Blue Zegna tie - a gift from my wife, Laine.
