"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

Good morning Washington.

Got a blind item, interesting link, funny note, comment, birthday, anniversary or anything of the sort for Morning Reading List? Drop us a line or let us know in the tips box below.

We've got your morning mix of media Muesli after the jump...

Jossip: "ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and the Associated Press are suing Secretary of State Mark Ritchie and Attorney General Lori Swanson for enacting a law to expand the amount of space news orgs have to remain from polling stations." Jimmy Carter is 84 today. 100 years ago today, Henry Ford introduced the Model T automobile to the market. 46 years ago, Johnny Carson debuted as host of NBC's "Tonight" show. 37 years ago, Walt Disney World opened in Orlando. You would rather work at a less prestigious paper with a better work environment than work at a prestigious paper with a bad work environment. Was that Keith Olbermann calling Roll Call "Capitol Hill's newspaper of record" on Monday night? It was a year ago today when Capitol File parted ways with Kate Gibbs. The Post's Gene Weingarten turns 57 tomorrow. Check out today's White House Photo of the Day from Time. Today's "Angry Journalist" rant of the day: "They cut our already frozen pay. By an additional 10%."

Its Sunday edition alone, bulked up by a sheath of advertising inserts and classified ads, can tip the scales at around 2 1/2 pounds. That, of course, is just for the people who want it. The Post Co. also distributes its brand to people who don't request it. Logan Circle resident Michael Sirvet says he's been getting something called the Washington Post Shopping Guide 'forever.' When he finds the weekly promotional piece in his mailbox, he follows a simple routine that involves throwing it away."

Based in New York for the past three years, the couple were not given any explanation by the US authorities for the refusal, which Reporters Without Borders regards as arbitrary. They were, however, given a form suggesting they are regarded as a threat to the United States."

  • E&P reports, "Don't tell Marcus Brauchli that U.S. newspapers haven't been properly warning about the current financial crisis for years. Brauchli, executive editor of The Washington Post and former managing editor and longtime veteran of The Wall Street Journal, says coverage of the coming tide of economic woes, stemming largely from the mortgage and credit crisis, dates back more than a decade."

We have a team of 4 people going thru dumpsters in Alaska and 4 in arizona. Not a single one looking into Acorn, Ayers or Freddiemae. Editor refuses to publish anything that would jeopardize election for O, and betting you dollars to donuts same is true at NYT, others. People cheer when CNN or NBC run another Palin-mocking but raising any reasonable inquiry into obama is derided or flat out ignored. The fix is in, and its working.'
