FishbowlDC is picking up on some difficult times over at PBS's "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer."

First there was Jim Lehrer's health problems...

Then some departures. First Susan Dentzer left and now we hear that Senior Producer Jim Trengrove is leaving to explore "new ventures and also plans to use this opportunity to spend more time with his daughters this summer."

But we're also hearing about some money problems, namely that they've frozen salaries and suspended company 401k contributions until further notice (and are doing some staffing reevaluations).

We hear that it isn't a matter of being over budget, but rather that the economic downturn has limited sponsorship contributions. Without those contributions, a budget shortfall of several million dollars is likely.
