"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

Revolving Door 7.8.05

The blogs are alive today with rumors that William Rehnquist will be changing jobs, perhaps as early as today, but here are some real actual confirmed job changes a foot in Washington:

  • In a sign that the Express is taking itself a little more seriously, Mike Grass, the brains behind DCist.com, is leaving his fake blogging job and his real job at Roll Call to edit and develop the local pages of the Post's Express, a.k.a. "Washington's free daily newspaper." The hire is a remarkably smart one for Publisher Christopher Ma, as DCist's young readership is precisely Express' target audience.

  • FNC's Brian "Who The F Are You?" Wilson has been promoted to congressional correspondent, and has launched a new blog. Frankly, all these Fox blogs are a little boring--can't any of them contain the smiley faces and music tips from Xanga and LiveJournal?

  • Just in the nick of time, the Post has hired Dan Morse away from the Wall Street Journal's Atlanta bureau. Morse signed up with the Post days before marrying business reporter Dana Hedgpeth, getting in just under the paper's super-strict anti-nepotism rules, which prohibit hiring the spouse or immediate family of a Post reporter. Thus Dana and Dan join the short list of Post couples, which includes Metro writer Susan Kinzie and Nationals reporter Barry Svrluga, and former Mexico writers and future London writers Kevin Sullivan and Mary Jordan.

  • ABCNews has hired Elisabeth Leamy as the new consumer reporter for "Good Morning America," based here in Washington--which means that despite the promotion, her dog Buddha doesn't have to move. An Emmy and Murrow award-winning veteran of D.C.'s Fox 5 (WTTG), Leamy has made a name for herself with her "The Savvy Connsumer" segments.

  • D.C. Style and it's Philadelphia sister publication has a few changes to note: Jen A. Miller will be senior editor and food editor Richard Pawlak will be replaced by copy editor Joy Manning.

UPDATE:

> Deputy bureau chief Linda Fibich will take over from Deborah Howell as the bureau chief of Newhouse Newspapers' Washington bureau. Howell, you might remember, will be the Post's new ombudsman.

> And, yes, we were not all inclusive in our list of Post couples above (but if you read the phrasing, we weren't trying to be). Thanks to everyone who contributed additional Post couples: Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, Jeff Leen and Lynn Medford, Steve Barr and Lexie Verdon, Kevin Merida and Donna Britt, and Jakarta scribes Alan Sipress and Ellen Nakashima.
