What’s your most embarrassing on-the-job moment? (Or as embarrassing as you’d like to reveal?)
My first month covering Congress for the Boston Globe, I almost killed Sen. Robert Byrd. I was covering an event on the steps of the Capitol, and after it was over I started racing up the steps while checking my cell phone, and ran right into Sen. Byrd. He wobbled for a really scary moment until I stabilized him by grabbing both shoulders. In that split second, I had visions of the headline: “Rookie Reporter Kills Senate Legend.”
