Attack of the Glossies

Richard Leiby’s Reliable Source this morning examines the bizarre phenomenon of magazine publishers looking to sink hundreds of thousands of dollars into covering D.C.’s “nightlife” and “style.”

D.C. Style (coming in May), DC Magazine (September), and Capitol File (also September) all come from proud families of super glossy publications, but they appear to have been sadly misled as to this city’s level of celebrity intrigue. “We understand that although it’s red tie and blue tie during the day, Washingtonians unzip at night,” D.C. Style owner Dana Spain-Smith told the Reliable Source. Yea, um, totally. She went on to an even more puzzling statement: “Right now there’s not a publication in the market that caters to the fashionable set.”

Um, come on Dana, have you seen the Examiner lately? (Frankly, we haven’t either: They didn’t deliver to our neighborhood today.)
