Bill Brady, R.I.P.

We learned yesterday of the passing of Bill Brady, a long time night editor at the Washington Post and a man once dubbed “”the most unflappable person in The Post newsroom.”

Brady was a true old-fashioned newsman:

His sartorial skills were questionable, even if his news judgment was not. At his desk, his tie yanked down to the base of his sternum, he could be found editing with his thick lead pencil, holding it under every word until he was satisfied, which was rare. He tried to wish away technology by keeping his Underwood years after the transition to a computerized editing system.
