Brit Hitchens Labels Smoking Ban ‘Un-American’
The British Vanity Fair grump Christopher Hitchens last night weighed in at the D.C. City Council meeting on Washington’s proposed smoking ban.
“I mean, really, you’re treating us like children,” he told the council during a hearing last night. The “enthusiastic” smoker (and it’s hard to imagine the iconoclastic Hitchens really being ‘enthusiastic’ about much) then regaled attendees with stories of the “conviviality of Herb White’s bar on P Street NW, where writers would get discounted drinks,” before going on to label such a ban un-American.
So there you have it: The D.C. City Council hates America. The British tell us so.
