Cillizza: Staying

A Washington Post source tells FishbowlDC:

Chris Cillizza, author of the popular Fix political column on www.washingtonpost.com and the real rock star of the Post politics team these days, has turned down an offer by VandeHarris in favor of staying with the paper. The VandeHarris boys dangled big bucks to get Cillizza, whose column has been a huge hit and who was named one of the up-and-coming new generation of pundits by the Wall Street Journal. But Cillizza decided to remain at the premiere home for political news as Post editors launch an aggressive drive to remake the paper’s coverage of Washington and campaigns both in the print edition and on the web. Cillizza was used like a switch-hitter during the 2006 campaign, not only anchoring his web column but also writing regularly for the print paper. He and Jim VandeHei produced the memorable “Ohio River Ramble,” a multimedia campaign package
generated by a nine-day trek through nine competitive congressional
districts along the Ohio River Valley. Look to see a lot more Cillizza bylines in the paper. The editors plan to make him an even more central part of the coverage of the 2008 campaign for both the web and the print paper.
