CNN Hires MTV’s Brianna Keilar

briannakeilor.jpgAs it continues to beef up the Newsource division, CNN has hired MTV’s Brianna Keilar as a Washington correspondent.

Keilar will be the network’s third correspondent in D.C. for Newsource, which services the network affiliates. “The addition of Brianna means we can offer our affiliates another well-rounded journalist from our D.C. ranks, and it furthers our expansion of the Washington, D.C. bureau,” said Paul Crum, executive director of news operations for CNN/U.S. “Brianna is an engaging reporter whose strengths include enterprise reporting and a thirst for news. She’s a news junkie.”

The Australian Keilar comes to Washington from MTVu, MTV’s college network. There she worked served as an anchor, reporter, and producer while doubling as a fill-in anchor for CBS news updates. Prior to that, Keilar was a general assignment reporter at KIMA-TV, a CNN and CBS affiliate in Yakima, Wash. She’s also a former radio morning show “personality.”

MTV, huh? On the other hand, while your primetime anchor is the former host of “The Mole,” MTV looks like pretty serious journalism training.
