Downie Has To Play Scrooge For A Day

From a staff note sent from the Washington Post’s Len Downie, obtained by FishbowlDC:

To restate the obvious, the joy of the Christmas season should not be confused with the acceptance of gifts from newsmakers, news sources or others that would create a conflict of interest.

Any perishables received — flowers, fruit, cakes, turkeys, etc,– should be sent to an organization of your choice that can use them, along with a note to the sender saying you have done so. Jill Grisco will see that the items are delivered to a shelter or hospital. Please drop them off at her office.

Other gifts — clothing, booze, cash, gift certificates, whatever — should be politely returned.
