Fletcher Leaves WH For Economics Beat

From a Washington Post internal announcement, obtained by FishbowlDC:

We are delighted to announce that Michael Fletcher will be our national economics reporter. He will examine how individuals and communities throughout the country are coping with economic changes brought on by globalization, taxes, labor policies, shrinking benefits, disappearing pensions, immigration and racial politics, and outsourcing. The economy is emerging as a key issue in next year’s elections, and Michael has shown he has the talent for both the storytelling and the tough analysis that this beat will require.
Michael has been a reporter at the Post since 1995, covering the White House, education, race relations and D.C. government. He has written with insight and passion about faith-based anti-poverty programs, racial achievement gaps, racial profiling, the Million Man March, the role of economic woes in Ohio’s 2006 elections and the Bush administration. He also wrote the story that launched the Being a Black Man series. Before coming to the Post, he worked at the Baltimore Sun and The Evening Sun, covering government and politics, and at the Washington Star, where he was on staff four months before the paper folded in 1981. Prior to that, he worked at The Courier-News in New Jersey and at FYI, Time Inc.’s corporate newsletter. As a college student, he interned at The Amsterdam News in NYC. Michael will start his new job Nov. 1.
