“Good Editor But A Poor Manager”

bennettpost.jpgHarry Jaffe looks at the 19-month tenure of Post Managing Editor Phil Bennett. Although the piece has plenty of less-than-flattering anecdotes from current and former Posties, the overall portrait of Bennett’s performance seems like par for the course for someone in his position: You can always find someone less than pleased with how the paper is being managed.

Still, the most interesting questions to emerge from Jaffe’s piece is the manner in which Len Downie seemingly pushes his dirty work onto Bennett (“Says an editor involved in the changes: “Leonard is leading the ship of state. Phil’s in the engine room.”) and whether Bennett’s willingness to do so may earn him Downie’s top spot when Downie retires…?
