In Memoriam: Stanley Foster Reed
From C&E:
Stanley Foster Reed, founder of Campaigns & Elections, died Oct. 25 in Charlottesville, Va., at the age of 90. Born in Bogota, N.J., on Sept. 28, 1917, Reed was a self-taught intellectual with a love for poetry and classic literature, as well as an avid cook and a talented musician.
Reed, who was a mergers pioneer and expert in the 1960s and 1970s, also started the specialty business publications “Directors & Boards” and “Export Today.” He authored several books, including the bestselling tome, “The Art of M & A,” which he co-authored with his daughter, Alexandra Lajoux, and “The Toxic Executive,” a candid look at difficult bosses.
Reed founded Campaigns & Elections in 1980 as a journal of political action, with the goal of teaching people how to be more democratically active. It is now read in 40 countries across the globe.
