Just As We Suspected
The Washington Post’s John Maynard offers a rundown of local sweeps which ended yesterday: “Channel 5 wins the late-night news race. Channel 7 news wins at 5 p.m. among a key demographic. Channel 4 wins just about everything else. Channel 9 struggles but breaks some big stories.”
“And no one’s watching Tony Danza.”
DCRTV elaborates: NBC’s Channel 4′s largest audience is the 11 p.m. newscast with an average of 194,000 viewers — that’s 60,000 more than Channel 9 and nearly double Channel 7. American Idol gives Channel 5 a boost in the most watched late night news with 197,000 viewers tuning into its 10 p.m. newscast.
Channel 7′s 5 p.m. news wins the 25-to-54 demographic, the “local advertisers prize.” Channel 9′s 5 p.m. news was fifth behind the other three newscasts and “Judge Mathis.” Channel 9′s news was third at 6 PM, behind 4 and 7.
