Laura Bush on having ‘very, very’ normal life in WH

Are private conversations possible in any First Lady capacity?

C-SPAN 2′s Book TV took to the National Mall this weekend to cover Saturday’s book festival. They captured C-SPAN correspondent Peter Slen‘s  interview with former First Lady Laura Bush, who has been crisscrossing the country to promote her book, Spoken from the Heart.

What was revealed: 1) Her relationships with President Bush’s two chiefs of staff Josh Bolten and Andrew Card were close enough that she lunched with them each once or twice a month to talk about “what bothered” her or what “interested” her. She calls them “very fine men.” 2) She also discussed whether it was possible to have private conversations within her White House life. “It is possible to have friendships and a very, very normal life,” she says. …”Really, I knew the White House could be a home.” (Hmmm, maybe so. But has Laura hung out with French First Lady Carla Bruni? In a book out on Bruni, she supposedly revealed that First Lady Michelle Obama reportedly said life in the White House is “hell.” Michelle Obama reps have denied it. Laura also thinks it’s questionable. “She probably didn’t say that at all,” she told Slen. “That was probably made up.”)
