What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? Hard to single out one, but I’d say Caroline Knapp, my editor at the Boston Phoneix in the early 1990s. A great friend, author and poetic soul who died way too young, in 2002. Miss her acutely.

When’s the last time you volunteered? Where? Spring, at my daughter’s school
Who is your favorite active journalist? Tough one, so many. I’ll cop out and second Von Drehle on Marjorie Williams, one of my idols…
