New president Burr said hello in an introductory email:
Fellow regionals, I wanted to say hi and introduce myself. Some of you know me, and I’m sure I know some of you as well – and I look forward to meeting all of you at some point. As the new Regional Reporters Association president, I hope all of you feel like you can approach me or any of the new officers or board members with suggestions, advice or criticim.
It’s a tough time for us regionals, as it is for the rest of the news industry, but it’s my hope that we can work together to boost our collective ability to send home top-notch reporting, and, by extension, prove the worth of Washington bureaus.
I would like to take a minute also to personally thank my competitor and friend Suzanne Struglinski for her dedication to RRA and her nearly three years of service as president. She’s an incredible asset to our organization and I’m glad she’s remaining on the board to continue her work for RRA.
We have several things on the agenda, and I’m hoping to relaunch our blog on the RRA site with a dedicated blogger to roundup our news/events/etc. In July, we’re planning an event for members to learn from some veteran convention reporters, and we’re hoping for a series of workshops this year and next to help all of us cover some hot-topic issues.
Again, please feel free to let me know if you have any ideas to make RRA the best organization it can possible be.
Best, Tommy
