Plame Suit Fallout

The suit filed by Valerie Plame and Joseph Wilson charges that the couple suffered a “gross invasion” of their privacy, have been impaired in pursuing professional opportunities, and fear for their safety and the safety of their children as a result of the public disclosure of Plame’s CIA role. It seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

The Washington Post reports that the White House declined to comment on the suit, as did the vice president’s office. Plame, Wilson and their attorneys declined to comment yesterday, saying they will answer questions at a news conference scheduled for 10 a.m. today.

  • The Washington Times’ write up

  • Rove spokesman Mark Corallo told the AP: “Without even having had a chance to review the complaint, it is clear that the allegations are absolutely and utterly without merit.”

  • The Chicago Tribune notes that “the suit is likely to become a rallying point for administration critics. The charges are rooted in one of the most divisive and intensely debated issues of the Bush presidency: whether the administration “twisted” the intelligence it used to justify the war in Iraq.”

  • NRO’s Stephen Spruiell offers the Huffington Post’s Lawrence O’Donnell‘s MSNBC interview, outlining the weakness of the suit.
