Quitcherbitchin: Newspaper Wages are Actually Climbing?!

man_swimming_money.gif
Despite what your checking account might be telling you, a new report claims that newspaper salaries are rising. An investigation into employee wages at 400 newspapers in the States and Canada found that, on average your salaries climbed by 2.1% since last year.

The problem is, editorial-page editors and new reporters’ pay didn’t budge while “interactive producers” saw salary hikes of 13% and folks working in “alternative business development” are banking 5% more than last year.

Lesson learned: take out at least one “interactive producer” before asking the boss for a raise.

Check out David Kaplan‘s analysis of industry wages and the folks reporting on them at paidcontent.org.
