Sad News For Downie
Washington Post Managing Editor Phil Bennett send out the following internal note, obtained by FishbowlDC, to staffers today:
I am sad to report that Leonard Downie, Len’s father, died today at his home in York, Pennsylvania, apparently of a heart attack. Mr. Downie was 89 years old. He was retired from several careers in food sales, and had continued to work well into his eighties. Len is traveling this afternoon to York to be with his mother and a brother who lives in the area.
