Sen. Coburn: Reading Newspapers and Watching TV 101

bun.jpegSen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) says he believes people need to be discerning when it comes to the media.

At a town hall meeting in Claremore, Okla. last week (filmed and re-aired on C-SPAN this weekend), he instructed his audience to read newspapers and watch cable news with care.

“All I want is a balanced form of news,” he said. “Fox isn’t right all the time, neither is Bill O’Reilly. But neither is the other side. I read The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal. God has given me enough of a brain” to tell the difference between the two.

Coburn had a funny way of calling on folks at the town hall.

“Lady with the bun or something on top,” he called out to a woman with long, loose gray hair swept up into a bun.

And later: “Alright, somebody on this side,” he said, gesturing. “Red Shirt!”
