Quotes of the Day

“Hmm which to choose?” — ABC’s Martha Raddatz with accompanying photograph.

Reader explains “tricks” scribes use to avoid crediting others

On Friday, WaPo‘s Paul Farhi wrote a story on Politico pulling a video that featured Sen. Min. Leader Mitch McConnell‘s (R-Ky.) COS blowing them love kisses. Turns out may that be against Senate rules, as reported by Roll Call‘s Meredith Shiner. So we wrote about Farhi’s failure to adequately cite Shiner and her story.

An Anonymous reader writes in…“Farhi’s failure to credit Roll Call: He use two of the oldest tricks in the book for skating past the explicit crediting of others: Don’t mention at top, but then mention the name of the news breaking organization without crediting them but attributing some small detail to their reporting. Fig leaf covered! The second dodge is when one your “friends” (your editor) tells you, “Farhi, you got beat on something!) Like the immaculate conception, if you hear it from someone else, then it is no longer breaking news!”

Important Question to Ponder: “Does Gray’s Anatomy have to be so bloody?” — FNC’s Greta Van Susteren.

The Observer

“Well, that was a new one: person in our row at Star Trek got up periodically throughout movie to do lunges in aisle.” — Anna Sproul-Latimer, literary agent.

Guiding Sophia’s Light

Incoming Heritage Prez Parties with Media Types

Last night the new home of Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) held its annual media Christmas party. That organization used to be known as The Heritage Foundation, but now you’d only know it as The DeMint Foundation since the Senator’s announcement.

The party is a must-attend for Washington media types and party crashers alike. Good food, top-shelf booze and big name revelers. The food disappointed this year but the attendees did not.

In addition to DeMint and outgoing foundation president Ed Feulner, other media types in attendance included… Read more

Nehman Signs Off WMAL For Last Time

WMAL’s Mornings with Brian and Brian, which runs form 5-9 AM, is down one Brian. This morning Brian Nehman signed off for the last time.

After 12 years with the station, he has taken a job at Baltimore’s WBAL where he will anchor their morning show. Word leaked out a month ago, but Nehman didn’t address it on air until his farewell message today.

WBAL is owned by Hearts Broadcasting, which also owns WBAL-TV, the local NBC affiliate, so don’t be surprised to see Nehman pop up on TV from time to time.

Nehman started out at WMAL as a reporter and gradually moved into hosting.

Program Director Bill Hess and Executive Producer Heather Smith will keep the show going with guest hosts to sit in with Brian Wilson while the search for a permanent replacement persists.

You can hear Nehman’s final sign-off here.

A Lot of Love for ‘Hating Breitbart’

Last night director Andrew Marcus premiered his new movie “Hating Breitbart” at the AMC Georgetown Theater followed by a party for the V.I.P. crowd at Sequoia.

The movie makes you miss the good natured Andrew Breitbart, who died suddenly of a bad heart in March. Think what you will of his politics, and his countless enemies, Breitbart made politics fun when he engaged.

The mood at the after party was upbeat, with booze flowing and most of the conversations revolving around the late subject of the film. All mentioned how he was missed. Everyone had positive, funny stories to share.

In attendance were Marcus, the director, producers Maura Flynn and Evan Coyne Maloney, Larry Solov, Andrew’s life-long friend, business partner and now head-honcho, Breitbart.com’s “Minister of Culture” Jon Kahn, Breitbart.com editors Larry O’Connor and Mike Flynn, Slate’s Dave Weigel (because what’s a party without him?), WMAL’s morning show producer Heather Smith, New York Daily News and Townhall’s Derek Hunter, the Franklin Center’s Tabitha Hale, Washington Times reporter Kerry Picket, former TWT Editor Sam Dealey, Buckley Carlson and the ubiquitous David Bass of Raptor Strategies.

You can learn about the movie, watch the trailer and find it in a theater near you here.

Heather Smith has been promoted to Executive Producer of WMAL’s “Morning Majority” program. She joined the station in August 2010. Program Director Bill Hess says Smith guided them through a confusing time without a ratings loss.

What you may not know about Smith…She has produced three top 10 nationally syndicated radio programs: The G. Gordon Liddy Show, The Laura Ingraham Show and most recently, The Lars Larson Show. She began working in radio when she was just 17 by hosting a love and relationships talk show. She also founded a radio station at her high school. She was formerly a TV booker for FNC.
