Bad Hair Day Leads to Holiday Hat

WETA’s “White House Chronicle” was a series of delights on Sunday morning. One of which was that Co-host and General Manager Linda Gasparello, sidekick to the main dish Llewellyn King, had donned a red hat.

“I’ve been trying to get her to wear a hat for 14 years,” King mused at the beginning of the show.

Later in the 30-minute program we learn the real reason that Gasparello is wearing a hat: A bad hair day, she says. King scolds her for admitting this, saying, “You’re supposed to make people think I’ve finally convinced you!”

At the conclusion of the show, the Zimbabwe-born King gave a shout-out to CNN’s Larry King, who concluded “Larry King Live” last week. “You know what’s going to happen?” King asked rhetorically. “People are going to get tremendous confidence in our belts again,” he said, pulling back his blazer and snapping a pair of suspenders.

Scribes Indulge in McRibs

Weird but true, in recent days Washington journalists have had a hankering for McRibs.

NJ‘s Sue Davis started it on Election Day by tweeting, “Election Day? Schmelection Schmay. The McRib is back!” Then The Hill‘s White House correspondent Sam Youngman wrote about it on Twitter late last week, saying “First order of business with POTUS out of the country? Find out how many McRibs can I eat in one sitting.” Youngman says a number of journos have been tweeting about the tantalizing McRibs. “They’re freaking awesome,” the Kentucky native said. “And I’m a BBQ snob.” (As we speak, Youngman is going out to get the McRib sandwich.)

And on Sunday on WETA’s “White House Chronicle” with hosts Llewellyn King and Linda Gasparello, Sirus XM Radio’s Adam Belmar remarked that that McRib was among his better moments on Election Day. “I would say as a high point on Election Day didn’t just bring new blood to Congress,” he said. “I was on my way home and discovered that McDonalds has reintroduced the McRib. It’s an America I want to live in.”
