DC Vote Hosts First Annual Three Star Ball

20140522_195451Last night overlooking the Capitol, DC Vote hosted its first annual Three Star Ball in honor of Brandon Skall and Jeff Hancock of DC Brau Brewing Company and Nancy Bagley of Washington Life for their dedication to fulfilling the promise of democracy.

“More than half of all Americans don’t know DC residents are without equal voting rights,” said DC Vote Executive Director Kimberly Perry, whom we chatted with last week in advance of last night’s ball. “So we have a lot of work to do. But, with the energy and passion of young people like you, we can spread the word and mobilize people to act.”

The organization dedicated to securing full voting representation in Congress landed well-known Washingtonians to host the festivities, including José Andrés, Vinoda Basnayake, Dannia Hakki, Donald Sherman, Sarah Aburdeneh and Edward Smith.

After accepting the “Raising the Bar Award,” Skall explained atop the NAR Building, “If history has taught us anything, it is that these rights were given to us for good reason. When these rights are withheld without due process, we open the door to a very scary reality. It is time to shut that door.”

DC “Youth” Get Hammered, Body-painted at WL‘s YGL

If you weren’t one of the hundreds of what’s-his-names and so-and-sos who rolled up to the Carnegie Library in an Uber black car last night, it could mean one of three things.

1) You are old.  We’re not talking John McLaughlin old…just over 40.

2) Your ambitious boozing and party hopping are not worthy of recognition in print.

3) You were recently arrested. (Too soon?)

Otherwise, like FishbowlDC, you were downing as many fine bourbons as your liver would allow at Washington Life’s ”Young and the Guest List” fete.  With countless bars, trippy body painting, and sequins from here to tomorrow, the historic venue played host to WL‘s fave overachievers under 40: 217 business leaders and entrepreneurs, 42 White House and Capitol Hill staffers, 29 media pros, 6 restaurateurs, 8 athletes, 5 diplomats, 10 members of Congress, and 18 artists.

Representing the Fourth Estate were CNN’s Brianna Keilar, Peter Hamby, Lauren Pratapas and Matt Dornic, WaPo’s Jackie Kucinich, Politico’s Patrick Gavin and his much better and more attractive half – Anne Gavin, Nikki Schwab from U.S. News….and others. Yes many, many others who escape our bourbon-laced memory.*

Check out the pics below!

Taking Out The Trash

What we almost missed today…

• Rima Al-Sabah, Susan Blumenthal, Debbie Dingell, Michelle Fenty, Rhoda Glickman and Barbara Harrison hosted a baby shower Saturday for Nancy Bagley at the Kuwaiti Embassy.

• And speaking of babies, CNN’s Campbell Brown gave birth to a baby boy this afternoon. Brown and husband Dan Senor now have two sons- Eli and baby Asher Liam.

Friends in High Places

Last night at Rep. John Dingell’s ceremony in Statuary Hall, instead of keeping the media in the back of the room with the cameras, reporters were unexpectedly directed up to the “catwalk” that surrounds the room.

What was interesting, though, is some of the media DID get in the room to mingle with guests. Our sources tell us it was “mostly older, mostly establishment types.”

Spotted: Tammy Haddad, Al Hunt, Mark Shields, Charlie Cook and Nancy Bagley.
