Times Says Goodbye To Pruden, Coombs

A reader tells us that Wes Pruden and Fran Coombs attended their last Washington Times news meeting Friday afternoon before driving off to retirement, or new adventures. John Solomon, Pruden’s successor, was also there, insisting the two attend.

Afterwards, Solomon presided over a going-away ceremony in the newsroom, calling both editors “giants” and responsible for TWT’s ascension to a must-read in Washington. Deputy Managing Editor Ted Agres presented them with gifts, a portable printer (Pruden) and an I-pod for Coombs. Next, Agres handed over two mock editions of TWT announcing the two departures. There were lots of applause from the gathered staff. Pruden received a long ovation at the end.

Also, another reader tells us that, in Wes’s old parking space, it used to just say “Wes Pruden” (no title or anything). Now the sign says “Executive Editor” but no name.
