Unauthorized CNN Anniversary Party Attracts CNN Alumnus and Current CNNers

drnks.jpg

On Saturday night there will be a party in honor of CNN’s 30th Anniversary at the National Press Club. But CNN is not hosting it. Technically (and strangely, even to those who are attending), it’s a private affair that has attracted little reaction or attention from CNN. The guest list comprises present and past employees – mostly past.

An announcement for the event reads: *This is a private effort and is not sponsored by CNN.”

Elissa Free, a former CNN producer between 1980 and 2001, is the party’s organizer. So far, 315 guests are planning to attend. Tickets are $75 a pop and will not be available at the door. Guests can expect an “amusing” video and memorial tribute to those “no longer with us.”

Some big names who are planning to attend: Ted Turner, Bernie Shaw (who will be Master of Ceremonies) Wolf Blitzer, Judy Woodruff, Claire Shipman, Jim Miklaszewski, Jill Dougherty, Jeanne Meserve, Sam Feist, Leon Harris, Pat Mitchell, Mary Alice Williams, Cissy Baker, Mike Boettcher, Jamie McIntyre; CNN-s first boss – Reese Schonfeld and enry Schuster, a producer for 60 Minutes and formerly a CNN producer.

As you can see above, some current CNNers will attend: Blitzer, anchor of “The Situation Room”; Feist, CNN’s political director and Rick Davis, a CNN original and an executive VP of CNN.

> Update: John Coale, husband to FNC’s Greta Van Susteren, e-mailed to say his wife is also a “big name.” He wrote: “Last I looked Greta Van Susteren was kind of a big name attending the CNN party.”
