WaPo Newsroom Reorganizes to Make Room for Universal Desk

And now, a guide to reorganization at WaPo‘s headquarters downtown at 15th and L St. NW. To make room for the universal newsdesk, the foreign, national and local reporters have been moved out of the 5th floor.

Maps to come. In the meantime, check out a memo, via Politico, explaining re-locations after the jump…

National and Local reporters and editors moved off the fifth floor to swing space over the weekend, following the pioneers from Foreign who began the trek last Thursday. Maps and signs are coming soon, but in the meantime here’s where to find your colleagues:

Foreign is on the first floor of the L Street building, in the old communications center. From the L Street entrance, walk into the corridor that runs by the security office, take the first right and then the first left, and follow the hall lined with filing cabinets.

Local reporters and editors are in meeting rooms 6 & 7 off the auditorium downstairs.

National Economy/Business reporters and editors are on the 6th floor of the Lennox building.

Other National reporters and editors are on the 3rd floor of the Lennox building,

The LA Times/Post news service folks are on the 1st floor of Lennox.

To get into the Lennox building, walk into Sports and look for the two big flat screen TVs on the wall. Walk along the corridor that runs in front of them, and up the stairs. That’s the 6th floor of Lennox, and you’ll see the national economy/business folks in front of you and to your right. Turn left and walk a few steps to find the elevator — take it to the third floor. It opens into the space where the rest of National is.

Or go to the cafeteria and walk out the side where the cashiers and game room are. Walk straight ahead, following the corridor that slopes down a bit. When you come to the end, turn left (into the area marked Magazine Administration) to find the elevator, or right to find stairs.

Up one flight (or floor) takes you to the third floor. Down one flight takes you to the first floor. If you take the elevator down, it will put you into the lobby of the Lennox building and you’ll have to walk back up a few steps to the first floor.

Everyone’s phone numbers stay the same, regardless of where they’re sitting or whether they’re working remotely.

The remaining people on the main section of 5 will be moved today and tomorrow.

The fifth floor L Street area (Investigative, Photo, News Art, Outlook and Sports) will be cleared before Labor Day.
