Weigel Joins WaPo National Politics

Political blogger Dave Weigel, known for his extensive coverage of the conservative movement and the rise of the tea parties at The Washington Independent will join the National Politics team at WaPo on April 5th.

See WaPo memo announcing his hire after the jump.

NATIONAL POLITICS ANNOUNCEMENT

We are pleased to announce the hiring of political blogger Dave Weigel, who has developed quite a following and reputation chronicling the conservative movement and the rise of the tea parties for The Washington Independent. Weigel’s work has taken him inside the world of Obama detractors and given him a front-row seat watching the remaking of the Republican Party. He covered the 2008 presidential campaign, notably Ron Paul’s movement, for the libertarian magazine Reason. His work has appeared in a wide range of publications including The Economist, the Los Angeles Times, The American Prospect, Washington Monthly, Slate, The American Conservative and The American Spectator. He also is a frequent radio and television analyst on such programs as MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show and NPR’s Fresh Air. We look forward to adding Dave’s strong reportorial voice, and insights into the right, to our political coverage, primarily online, as we ramp up for the 2010 midterms. Please welcome him when he starts on April 5.
