Correction
Theodore Gideonse, Jerramy Fine's agent, informs me that Fine's proposal was for a memoir, not a novel. "For some reason, the British journalists who have written about this can't understand the difference between a novel and a memoir," Gideonse wrote. "This is the second time they've gotten it wrong."
