Did You Bother Coming to Work Today?Like most bloggers and freelance writers, both Sarah and I are working out of our respective living rooms this morning, but what about all you publishing industry types—did you try to make your way into the city despite the TWU strike? If so, tell us about your commute. Heck, email us if you didn't come in to work, in which case we admire your tenacity for reading us from your home computer! For example, Overlook Press publicist John Mark Boling says he typically rides his bike into lower Manhattan anyway, but this morning "I got hit by a car in Brooklyn, which usually doesn't happen. I'm perfectly fine," he adds (whew!). "The driver was really nice (even offered me a free MRI or cat-scan), and I found out that I can do this neat trick where me and my bicycle do a Dukes of Hazzard-style slide across the hood of a moving car." Meanwhile, Best Life PR director James Humphrey walked 46 blocks to work "in Coach suede bucks and Hermes cashmere cap…..cold, but stylish!" And then there's folks like Janet Reid of the Jet Reid Literary Agency, who decided to do like we Galleycats did and work it from home today. Now the big question is: How long do we have to do this before the TWU goes back to the negotiating table? Email This Post |
