A long time ago, I confessed that the GOSSIP GIRL series was serious guilty pleasure reading for me. So does this mean I'm going to watch the TV adaptation of the multi-book series originated by Cecily von Ziegesar? Eh...maybe. That would require me caring about the CW as a network. But for those who are more interested, the network, in conjunction with Alloy Entertainment (the book packager responsible for the series) have teamed up with the O.C. creator Josh Schwartz to create a pilot for the series. "The books are a soap opera, and TV makes a lot of sense," said Leslie Morgenstein, Alloy president. "When we made the list of writers who would be the best to adapt Gossip Girl for television, Josh was at the top of the list."

The Hollywood Reporter says that GOSSIP GIRL marks the first major move in the scripted area for CW's development team under entertainment president Dawn Ostroff. It also will be the first major commitment for Alloy under the company's new deal with WBTV. Alloy is in the process of re-upping its pact with the studio for a third year.
