Amazon Will Not Re-Stock Kindles for the Holidays

Just a few weeks from the holidays, Amazon does not plan to restock the sold-out Kindle digital reader for Christmas. MobileContentToday published the news that Amazon would not put any more Kindles on the shelf until February next year.

The website speculated that the company is waiting until the Kindle 2 is released next year. (The device is pictured in that October photo from Boy Genius Report). In the meantime, GalleyCat reported that some digital competitors are already licking at Amazon’s heels.

Here’s the scoop:“It’s also possible that Amazon is clearing its stock of the first-generation device ahead of a rumored revamp due early in 2009. But missing out on all holiday season sales, plus at least an entire month afterward, doesn’t seem like the smartest business strategy to us.”
