Are Female Memoirists Reviewed Unfairly?

jennifers.jpgMemoirists like Katha Pollitt and Elizabeth Hayt historically receive worse reviews than their confessional male counterparts, one author alleged, stirring up the literary blogosphere.

According to Jennifer Weiner, memoirs by David Carr and David Lozell Martin have received glowing reviews in the press, while similar books by women get rejected by mainstream critics.

If you’re a guy who spends nights on end looking at Internet porn and days investing in drug companies that overcharge cancer patients for their cures, then you’re ‘formidably smart.’” (Via Readerville)
