The fugitive billionaire boys' club
The case of Radovan Krejcir (seen lounging in relaxed fashion on the front page of his website, in what has to be one of the most ironic poses of the year) started off fairly spectacularly a few months ago when the 37-year-old was arrested in his native Czech Republic for fraud and for planning the murder of a customs official. But then in June, he gave local police the slip, escaping with his family from his luxury home to Seychelles -- a country that the Czechs don't have an extradition treaty with. So rather openly (if not brazenly) the Krejcirs have become citizens of their adopted home, and are going about their lives as the Czech government figures out if they can do anything legally. So what's a reputed gangster to do? Write a book, of course, which evidently "describes his case and Czech police corruption" in great detail. Real names and places have been changed, and I don't think Krejcir goes so far as to proclaim his innocence -- but you can send him email through his website, if you really want to. And hey, why shouldn't celebrity books be limited to the US and the UK? Email This Post |
