The Association of American Publishers has rebranded the annual prizes handed out by its professional and scholarly publishing division for more than three decades. They will now be known as the the American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence, or "PROSE Awards." According to a press release, "publishers will benefit from changes that not only enhance the prestige of the awards, but also improve publishers’ chances of taking home prizes." That's because publishers can now submit as many books as they like for each of the award categories, and the prizes themselves will be the object of a major PR and marketing push. Another new twist: Members of the Association of American University Presses will also be able to submit books for consideration, along with the professional and scholarly publishers who have historically been eligible.
Submissions are being accepted now; the awards will be handed out in Washington, D.C., in February.
